This book is a fascinating read for those who are formal or informal leaders!! My thoughts were challenged as I examined how to apply the concepts from the book to my areas of leadership, as well as my personal life. Each chapter was full of new insight that allows the reader to practically apply the analogy of gardening to the daily demands of work or life. Overall, it was a tremendous book that encouraged me to rethink how I lead, so that I can do so more effectively.
After reading the book I’ve been thinking a lot about how applicable it was to just about anyone—whether you identify with the title “leader” or not. At minimum, we are all ultimately leaders of our own lives. I started jotting down some quotes from the book, and filled a page! I am definitely printing out “You are always a gardener. What grows – and how it grows – is up to you.” to post in a couple places to remind me throughout the day.
What a refreshing read! So many leadership books are dry and use banal concepts making the reader plod through to finally reach the end. But not this book!
Using an analogy that we can all relate to, Jones paint's an intelligible gardening picture and applies it to cultivating both a healthy team and a healthy working environment.
Always Growing provides easy-to-grasp ideas and suggestions to help both new AND established leaders improve their team dynamics which, in turn, improves the overall results of the team’s efforts.
Always Growing shows us how to lead our team in working together toward a higher standard - whether it be our work team, our volunteer team, or even our very own family.
The key points of Always Growing were spot on. The examples used to reinforce the points were well executed and helped reinforce the concepts taught by the author. I love the writing style of telling a story that entwines management learning concepts. It spoke to me loud and clear with great clarity of understanding.
I have already used the concept of “It is important to celebrate all of your productive results” in my communications at work to promote a project as a Continuous Improvement Engineer.
Each chapter is summarized with the key points. This book will not be put on a bookshelf to collect dust, but sit on my desktop at work as a reference tool for years to come.
I get the book on time, interesting to read.
Excellent book! Jones writes in a way that's easy to quickly translate to your own situation. I was able to take his concepts of growing, cultivating, pruning and harvesting and apply them to the new team I lead. I've definitely seen a difference in the results! This was not my first nor last Jones Loflin book! I can't wait to see what he comes out with next!
Loved the horticulture analogy in looking at leadership. The book gave me a quite a bit to think about, but was very easy to read and apply. I'm excited to share it with staff that I work with and have broader discussions in how we can use the ideas presented to make us all stronger and more effective.
